Speaker Wiring / Color-Coding for the Pontiac Fiero

More than likely, if you've bought a Fiero recently to restore, it likely doesn't have the original speakers installed. When replacing speakers, it's important to know which side is positive, and which side is negative. With aftermarket speakers, most people will cut off the factory plug connectors and install set of blade-style connectors... leaving you clueless as to which side is positive.

With a lot of searching, I found what is apparently a standard factory wiring format for GM vehicles through most of the 80s, including all years of the Pontiac Fiero. I can confirm this as I've replaced the speakers in both my 87 Fiero SE/V6 and my daughter's 1985 Fiero SE 2m4... even the headrest speakers. These color-diagrams below are correct:

- Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan
- Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray
- Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green
- Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green
- Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
- Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
- Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue
- Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue
